The Landeg family of Gower, in South Wales,has been an interest of mine for over 25 years. The surname is rare although established for over 500 years.It originates in the Gower region and has not, so far, been found in other areas of Wales although, being a descriptive surname, it is likely to occur elsewhere.If it has been used elsewhere in Wales it has probably not survived for more than a generation or so.
The Gower Landegs are descended from the Welsh nobility and their history makes a fascinating study. They are no 'run of the mill' family, leaving little trace in the records of the time.
