Families linked by marriage
|
The majority of Landegs alive today can claim descent from the Evans family of Gnoll in Neath. Ruins of part of the old house are to be seen today. The site is open to visitors and is set amongst extensive gardens worth seeing in their own right. Similarly, most Landegs are also related to the families who occupied Gwernllwynchwith House near Llansamlet. The last Earl of Leicester married a daughter of Lewis Thomas of Gwernllwynchwith. The marriage was a disaster and the antics of the bride in particular caused a scandal in C18th Glamorgan. Through this line, starting with Mary Thomas of Brinwhilach who married John Landeg of Trewyddfa Issa in 1737, many Landegs are related to the Vaughans of Tretower Court, the Havard family of Cwrt Sion Yonge in Brecknockshire and several Norman families who settled in Glamorgan.
